I have a feeling you are speaking of a situation when he shouldn't be in your party.
It's a very simple NPC, and basically there are just 2 checks:
Global("L#BristlelickJoin","GLOBAL",1)
Global("L#BristlelickJoin","GLOBAL",0)
1 being "You want me to leave?"
0 being "You want me back?"
There is no situation when the variable is set to a number greater than 1, and I have a feeling you are either in SoD or BG2, and that would mean you abused the Hideout. I already advised against doing that here:
