Tangled Oak Isle and the old BG2 - Lava - 07-03-2020

Hi! I am happy to announce that Tangled Oak Isle is now available. While I thought it would work fine with both BG2EE and BG2, for now the mod wolds only with the Enhanced Edition.

Everything was prepared to work on both versions of the game and when I thought I would start testing it on the old version of the game, I found out that somehow my PC has some problems with running the old version of the game. If there is any modder that would like to check if it installs fine on the old version, perhaps work on the compatibility (if there are any issues), then let me know.

EET compatibility will be also released on some point.

By Vanilla you mean old BG2? It probably doesn't work with it, as I mentioned in the first post.

Yes, I meant the old BG2. Therefore, I posted a debug-file - if this helps to make the mod compatible with the old version and remove this error.

The problem is that:
a) I have no idea why tra would load fine for BG2EE and does not load for the old BG2
b) ...even if I knew, old BG2 does not work on my PC, for some reason. Perhaps compatibility will come one day, but I thought it would be best to release the mod now instead of waiting another months familiar with modding and with working BG2, heh...
But who knows, perhaps someone will be eager to help and it will become available for those that play the old version of BG2.

Thanks for the report anyway! May be useful in the future.

v2.10 tested on BG2 + TobEx. At installation, many errors "[StateCheck] argumant [CD_STATE_NOTVALID] In state.ids" but the installation finish.
But when in the game, even with a new game, option 1 or 2, no new zone in the map.

Hi! Smile I added CD_STATE_NOTVALID. It would be great if you installed it and checked if no StateCheck problem displays.
As for the worldmap... sorry, I don't know how to help. It's been years since I used non-EE version and I never used TobEX, so I don't even know how it expands the game / the engine.

Hi Lava,

Thank you for your great additions to BG games.

After installing Tangled Oak Isle mod on oBG2, I have found that :

- L#NI02.are : POTN01.itm, in container 0, does not exist
- L#NI07.are : PORN02.itm, in container 0, does not exist
- L#NIHELM.itm : L#NIHELM.spl for opcode 132 does not exist. I have found a L#NIHELM.eff ythat match the missing spl but the opcode does not allow to use EFF.

Hello Lava. Really good mod as always. Playing Tangled Oak v 2.02 on BG2: crash to desktop when trying to enter the portal (the one in the cave after giving the music box to Tyalavah). This is area L#NI16.
 
Also, crash to desktop when trying to enter the small house beside the Druid's house.

The error message for both is :An assertion failed in ChDimm.cpp at line number 7641…AREA610A.BIF (or was it 160A?) from cd5 attempted to use compressed BIF from CD.

Other than that, another enjoyable area and quest! I hope the bug get's fixed for my next play through next year!

Hi! Sorry to hear that. I'm not sure if it's going to help, but you may want to unzip this into your override and see if it's going to help with the area behind the portal.
I no longer use old BG2, I only use EE. Also mods works sooo much better on them.

Perfect! I could enter the portal (the one in the cave after giving the music box to Tyalavah) to finish the main quest, and I can now also enter the small house (with the anti-social mage) beside the Druid's house!

Thank-you for the file(s)! (The lightpiercer arrow also now works/is equippable with no crash to desktop. It is now labelled "Arrow if Ice").

Lava, is BG2EE really better than BG2? I'm just so hooked on the classic/original game and interface. I found the interface of v2.3 to be such a turn off. Also, BG2EE is slightly darker which shows less detail (based on comparing print screen shots).
